Archive for the “.Net Framework 3.5” Category

Now that .net 3.5 has been released, there has been a flurry of people trying to install this on their dedicated and vps hosting accounts. Sure, installing it on a dedicated server isn’t that big of a deal, but trying to install it on a vps account, well there is a bit of an issue. See the problem is that there are two ways to install .net 3.5.

When the .NET Framework 3.5 shipped, 2 packages were made available for download – a 2.7 megabyte web download bootstrapper and an approximately 200 megabyte full install package.

Problem is that everyone wants to use the bootstrapper download, but on a vps this is impossible since the service needed for this, the Intelligent Background service is not enabled nor running on the vps. So in order to install .net 3.5, you need to download and run the full install package.

This applies to Swsoft’s virtuozzo’s virtualization software. I haven’t dealt with the other software, so I can’t comment on it.
